spring break

It looks like all I did during my spring break are about music.

The RENT is amazing, all the singers or actors have incredible voice. Although the theater seems old, the experience is new. I am glad I have rented the DVD first to get some background and be familiar with its lyric and melody because other international students who went with me feel a little frustrated to understand the story by listening. Except the show itself, RENT also helps to collect contributions or donations against AIDS and breast cancer (if my memory is correct) which makes this performance more meaningful. (But the way they achieve that is selling their poster for 50 dollar each, gosh!)

For the tour of Steinway's piano factory, basically it is designed for people who are pianists and may be interested in buying one back home or others who want to study the business spirit of Steinway family because Steinway not only engaged in making piano but is also an expert of transportation and marketing. The factory is like a classic timber factory which is full of wood and cutting machines. It is especially noisy and dusty with wood flour. The narrator's voice was often submerged by the sound from those machines which turned it into a unfavorable situation for me to catch up. But seeing those million-NT-dollar pianos is really fun. In the end of the tour, one guy who usually worked on testing the sound of newly formed piano performed a short piece of moonlight sonata for us. Everybody was touched by the music. It is such an impressive thing that you see the piano growing up for 9 months and finally are able to listen to its song, just like raising up a baby.

(Both photo taking during the show and inside the factory are prohibited.)
